The Bible talks about “BEARING FRUIT”. Well what does that mean? “Bearing fruit” means “to create something miraculous and special that only comes through God’s power and grace”.
In Genesis, God commands his people to be “fruitful and multiply” in regards to children. Because children are a blessing from the Lord. Having children is miraculous and special and should not be taken for granted.
Psalm 127: 3-5 says Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.”
It blows my mind how so many people complain about children and even want to wait years and years because they think children will bring them more stress. But the Bible says the complete opposite. That children are a huge blessing and make parents happy!
But when the Bible talks about bearing fruit, it is not only about children. Bearing fruit can also be referred to whatever it is you need or desire in your life. The fruit you want to produce in your life – can be more happiness/joy/peace, more money, more loving/loyal relationships, a more fruitful career or job, a better relationship with God, etc.
But how do we bear this MUCH FRUIT? How do we feel more fulfilled and satisfied with what we bring to the table and what we have to offer? How do we feel more satisfied and proud of the lives we live? How do we bear much fruit?
In John 15, Jesus tells us exactly what to do, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.”
What really sticks out to me from this scripture, is the fact that Jesus says “Apart from me you can do nothing”. Yet, so many of us try to do it all on our own and that is when we become depressed, stressed, worn out, unaccomplished, and defeated.
Whether you know it or not, we need Jesus to accomplish anything and everything. We need Jesus close. We need to remain in Him and let him remain in us. Only WITH GOD, all things all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).
This is how we bear much fruit. Fruit that will continue to grow and last. Fruit that will truly make us joyful and at peace!
